Project Title: Water Well for Orphanage in Guinea-BissauIt
Mark 9:41
“For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
Project Summary: This is a multi-ministry initiative and the first project of its kind that our team will lead. I hope to see more churches actively involved in the planning and logistics. We plan to send a small team to Guinea-Bissau in March 2025. Until then, we’ll be meeting with construction companies online over the next few months to discuss costs, logistics, and timelines. We are committed to full transparency, and anyone is welcome to join these Zoom calls.
This project aims to provide a reliable and sustainable source of clean water to an orphanage in Guinea-Bissau by constructing a well on-site. Currently, the orphanage relies on distant and inconsistent water sources, which limits daily access to safe water for the children and staff. By installing a dedicated well, we aim to improve health, hygiene, and overall quality of life for the orphanage residents, as well as the surrounding community.
Expected Impact - To Share The Gospel: The well will directly benefit over 200 children and staff at the orphanage, and may also serve neighboring families who currently have limited access to clean water. This outreach will open new opportunities to share the Gospel within the community. By addressing this essential need, the orphanage can reallocate resources to enhance educational programs, nutritional support, and emotional care, offering a stronger foundation for each child's future.
Project Goals:
Ensure Access to Clean Water: Provide a consistent supply of potable water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and hygiene.
Improve Health and Sanitation: Reduce waterborne illnesses and improve hygiene standards by allowing regular washing and sanitation.
Empower the Orphanage: Decrease dependency on unreliable sources and reduce the time spent fetching water, enabling more focus on education, care, and development for the children.
Project Components:
Site Assessment and Drilling: Assess the land for an ideal drilling location, hire a local drilling team, and begin well construction.
Installation of Pump and Filtration System: Install a reliable hand or electric pump (depending on resources and power availability) and a filtration system to ensure safe, clean drinking water.
Community Education on Water Usage and Maintenance: Train orphanage staff and community members on how to use, maintain, and care for the well.
Budget and Timeline: The project budget includes costs for land assessment, drilling, pump and filtration installation, and training. During our pre-visit zoom meeting we hope to have general timelines established before our trip to Guinea Bissau in March of 2025.
